Agile Refresher Sessions Training

Do you need to strengthen your team's understanding of Agile concepts? Our Agile refresher workshops provide topics for you to choose the best fit your team's needs. These half-day classes provide a hands-on and interactive experience led by experienced Agile trainers, who can teach on-site or virtually.

  • All modules are independent, and attendees can participate in one or both sessions each day
Course Outline
Module 1: Agile, Scrum, Kanban - 3 Hours Participants will review the Agile Mindset and discuss how to apply it. Discover the Kanban and Scrum Lifecycles: 3-5-3 and WIP.
Module 2: Product Backlog, Epics, User Stories, Acceptance Criteria - 4 Hours Participants receive a comprehensive overview of writing and decomposing Product Backlogs. We focus on what makes a good user story and how to communicate acceptance criteria and requirements.
Module 3: Metrics - 3 Hours
  • Agile metrics provide meaningful insights and actionable steps to drive continuous improvement. Learn the most popular Agile Scrum metrics with the help of different examples and data patterns.

  • Predictability (Committed vs. Completed & Planned vs. Unplanned)
  • Cumulative Flow Diagram (CFD)

Module 4: Jira - 4 Hours This hands-on workshop covers all the features needed to manage projects and tasks in Jira. Learn how to set up and organize your work, create issues, switch between project boards, find issues assigned to you, and use basic dashboards. Learners will have access to a hands-on lab for real-world practice.

Module 5: Prioritization and Estimation - 3 Hours In this workshop, we will review the best practices of Agile Estimations. Learn and apply various techniques to prioritize the product backlog (Moscow, multi-cell model, buy-a-feature…). Review why we estimate using the Fibonacci sequence and practice two different estimations techniques: Affinity estimation and Planning poker.
Module 6: Facilitation - 3 Hours Gain an understanding of the essential skill and behaviors of an effective facilitator. In the course, we will practice the behaviors that lead to optimum participation and commitment. Learn the three decision-making styles, command, consultative, and consensus. This course will focus on facilitating retrospectives that yield long-lasting results.
Module 7: Kanban - 3 Hours Kanban is a very popular Agile framework that can seem appealing because it appears to have few rules. When in fact, Kanban can be a very nuanced framework. In this workshop, we will review the Kanban principles, review best practices. We will dive into how to merge the best of Scrum and Kanban into a new framework from which your team can benefit.
Module 8: Scaling Agile - 3 Hours In this workshop, our instructors will help you understand what scaling is and determine if it is something your organization can tackle. We review the best practices of enterprise-scaled agile adoption. We will discuss the various Agile frameworks and what practices you can begin to use with your teams today.
Module 9: Outcomes vs. Outputs Refresher - 4 Hours Shifting towards a Product based Value-Driven Portfolio requires a focus on delivering outcomes. This workshop will discuss the difference between Outcomes and Outputs and why moving away from a Project Mindset is necessary. We will practice writing Initiatives, Epics, and Key Value Indicators (KVIs) and review how teams can use sprint goals to achieve their KVIs.

Module 10: The Pizza Game - Virtual Agile Team Building- 4 Hours Introducing the Pizza Game, a virtual process improvement game. In this engaging game, one or more teams work to organize and develop processes to make a successful Pizza shop.

Teams start by reviewing what it means to be Agile. After reviewing the Scrum framework, teams execute a predefined process of building and baking pizzas. They are then tasked with identifying process improvements thru self-management, reducing waste, increasing quality, and collaborating.

This game is perfect for teams just starting Agile, Scrum, Kanban, or looking for a fun virtual team-building activity.
